Tickwell guide
Tickwell adds timed quizzes and exams to your Wix site. The time limit is kept on our server, answers save as people work, and whatever they've answered is handed in when time runs out. Questions: hello@greatwork.company.
Getting started
- Open Tickwell from your Wix dashboard. A sample quiz, "Kitchen safety check", is there to try and change.
- In the Wix editor, add the Tickwell quiz widget to a page (Add Apps), open its Settings and pick the quiz. Publish.
- Back in Tickwell, click Open on the quiz. Visitors can start it once your free trial has started.
- Before your trial you can build quizzes, set up extra time and place the widget; visitors see "This quiz isn't open right now" until then. They never see anything about your plan.
Writing a quiz
- Question types: multiple choice (one right answer), checkboxes (several right answers, all or nothing or partial credit), short text (list the answers you accept; capital letters, extra spaces and a final period don't matter unless you say so), number (the right number and how far off still counts; "1,5" and "1.5" both work), and true or false.
- Points per question, from 0.5 to 100. The score is the percent of points earned; set the pass mark in Settings.
- Question banks: put questions in banks and set "Questions drawn per attempt". A bank of 30 drawing 10 gives each person a random 10. Leave it at 0 to use every question.
- Shuffle question order and option order; each person keeps their own order if they come back.
- Each person's paper is fixed when they press Start, so editing a quiz never changes an attempt in progress.
Who can take it
- Anyone with the page: people type their name and email. One attempt per email (or the number you set).
- Logged-in site members: needs Wix Members on your site. One attempt per member. A member who starts on one device can carry on from another.
- Members with a pricing plan (Pro): only members with an active order for the Wix pricing plans you pick.
- Opens / Closes: optional. Anyone still working at the closing time is handed in then.
During the quiz
- The countdown is the server's. Reloading, closing the tab or changing the device clock doesn't add time.
- Answers save a moment after each change and every 15 seconds. When the clock reaches zero the answers are handed in. If the page was closed, Tickwell hands in the last saved answers within a few seconds of the deadline. Answers that arrive more than 30 seconds after the deadline are ignored in favor of the last save.
- Each person sees a code when they start. It brings them back to their attempt on any device, and shows their result later. Members don't need it.
- Left the page: if turned on, Tickwell counts how often a person switched tabs or apps during the attempt.
- Pause (Quizzes tab): stops new starts and every running clock, for a fire drill or a broken projector. Resume gives everyone their remaining time back. Close stops new starts; people already working keep their time.
Extra time
In the quiz's Extra time box, write one person per line with their extra time: Ana Ruiz, +15 (15 more minutes),
ben@example.com 1.5x (time and a half) or Mia Chen: 2x +5. Save, then Copy link for each person and send it
to them. Each link opens your quiz page with its own clock and allows one attempt. Saving the list again keeps the
links you already sent. The links use the page address in the quiz's settings, so set it to the page with the widget.
Results
- Right away or held until you release them (a Release button, or a release time). Takers see their score, their score and the right answers with your explanations, or only that their answers are in.
- Results tab: every attempt with time taken, score and pass, how often the person left the page. Open one to see each answer next to the right one, change the points for a question (useful for short answers you want to accept), add minutes to a running attempt, allow a retake, or delete it.
- CSV: one row per attempt with every answer, for your spreadsheet or gradebook.
- Certificates: turn them on in Settings with a title, your organization, who signs and a color. People who pass get a PDF with their name, score and date; you can open it from the attempt.
Limits and data
- Standard: 10 quizzes, 1,000 attempts a month, 50 extra-time links per quiz. Pro: 200 quizzes, 10,000 attempts a month, 500 links, the pricing plan gate, results kept up to 3 years. When the month's attempts are used, new starts wait until the 1st and the dashboard shows it.
- Results are kept 180 days unless you change it in Settings (7 to 365 days, up to 3 years on Pro).
- Settings also has "Delete one person's attempts" for privacy requests, a full download of what Tickwell stores, and "Delete all results".
