Lanemark documentation
Getting started
- Edit a page, type
/bpmnand choose BPMN diagram (Lanemark). The editor opens full screen. - Pick a start: Blank, a template (Approval, Incident handling) or Import a file.
- Model with the palette on the left: events, tasks, gateways, subprocesses, data, pools and lanes. Select an element to name it, describe it, or link it (right panel).
- Give the process a name, optionally say what changed, and choose Save version 1. Publish the page.
Readers can pan (drag) and zoom (buttons bottom left, or Ctrl/Cmd + scroll). Click any step for its details.
To change a diagram later, choose Edit above it (no need to edit the page), or edit the page and open the macro. Every save is a new version.
Importing BPMN files
Lanemark reads BPMN 2.0 XML (.bpmn or .xml) from any standards-based tool: Camunda Modeler,
Camunda 8, SAP Signavio, Bizagi, ADONIS, Flowable, Activiti, Visual Paradigm and others.
- Vendor extensions (for example
camunda:attributes) are kept and written back on download. - Files without diagram layout get an automatic left-to-right layout.
- Files over 3 MB, draw.io files, DMN decision files and XML with entity declarations are refused with a reason.
Links to Jira and Confluence
Select an element in the editor and fill in:
- Jira work item: a key such as
OPS-12. Readers see a badge with its status on the diagram, and its summary and assignee when they click the step. Status is read with each reader's own Jira permissions; a struck-through badge means the work item does not exist or the reader cannot see it. Jira status needs the app connected to Jira on your site (Atlassian Administration > Apps > Lanemark > connect Jira). - Confluence page: paste a page link. Readers can jump to it from the step.
Links are stored in the diagram as lanemark:jira and lanemark:page attributes, so they travel
with downloads; other BPMN tools ignore or keep them.
Versions and compare
Choose History above a diagram. Each version shows its note, time, element count and check result. View opens an older version read-only, Restore as new version brings it back as the newest version, and ticking two versions (or compare the last two) colors the changes: green added, amber changed (renamed, relinked, rewired, condition changed), blue moved. Show version N switches to the older version, with removed elements in red.
If two people edit at once, the second save shows who saved first; Save mine anyway keeps both as versions so you can compare them. Lanemark keeps the newest 100 versions of each diagram.
Model check
Check lists problems and outlines the affected elements:
| Rule | Severity | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| No start event | error | A process (or event subprocess) has no start event |
| Element link is not valid | error | A Jira link is not a key, or a page link is not a page id |
| No end event | warning | Readers can't tell where the process finishes |
| Activity without a name | warning | A task or subprocess has no label |
| Element is not connected | warning | Nothing flows in or out |
| Flow stops without an end event | warning | A path leads nowhere |
| Gateway branch without a label or condition | warning | Readers can't tell which way to go |
| Several flows enter an activity without a gateway | info | Use a gateway to show whether it waits for all of them |
| Gateway with one way in and one way out | info | The gateway does nothing |
Process landscape
Add Process landscape (Lanemark) to any page in a space. It lists every Lanemark diagram in the space that the reader can see: process name, page, version and last change, element count, Jira progress (done out of linked) and check findings. Filter by name, page or work item key.
Copying pages
When a page with a diagram is copied, the copy shows the same diagram until someone who can see both pages opens it; Lanemark then gives the copy its own diagram, so changes on one page never affect the other. Readers who cannot see the original page see a short message instead.
Export and download
- PDF and Word export: the diagram is exported as an image with its name, version and date. Tick List linked Jira work items under the diagram in the macro's Display tab to add them.
- Download: BPMN 2.0 XML (.bpmn), SVG or PNG from the Download panel, plus Copy XML. Downloads stay available while a subscription is inactive.
Permissions and data
Lanemark checks Confluence page permissions on every view and save: viewing a diagram needs view access to its page, changing it needs edit access. Diagrams are stored in your site's Forge app storage, hosted by Atlassian; nothing leaves Atlassian. See the privacy policy.
Open-source licenses
Lanemark includes bpmn-js and diagram-js (Copyright Camunda Services GmbH, bpmn.io license: MIT terms plus the requirement that the bpmn.io watermark linking to https://bpmn.io stays fully visible on rendered diagrams, which is why it appears in the corner of every canvas), bpmn-moddle, bpmn-js-differ and bpmn-auto-layout (MIT), React (MIT).
