Kioskwell setup guide

Kioskwell runs a local business directory from your CRM: a public website of businesses, searchable by category and near a ZIP, that owners claim, update and pay to feature. Setup takes about fifteen minutes.

1. Install and open

Install Kioskwell on the business account from your CRM's app marketplace, then open it from the left menu. Anyone on the team can look around; changes are for account admins.

2. Create a directory

Give it a name ("Dallas Home Pros"), a web address (letters, numbers and dashes), the area it covers and your categories. You can change all of it later under Directory settings, including the tagline, the about text, your brand color and a logo (upload it to your media library and paste its link).

3. Add businesses

  • Import: Listings > Import CSV. Save your spreadsheet as CSV with a heading row: name (required), category, description, phone, email, website, address, city, state, zip, hours, service area. New categories are added; repeats are skipped. Up to 2,000 rows at a time, 5,000 listings per directory.
  • By hand: Listings > Add a business.
  • Owners add themselves with "Add your business" on the public site. Their business appears once they confirm their email (and you approve it, if "Review new businesses" is on).

Import only lists you're allowed to use. Addresses are placed on the map within a minute or two.

4. Decide the rules

Directory settings > Rules:

  • Review new businesses / claims / owners' edits: hold each for your approval, or let a confirmed email do it.
  • Who receives visitors' requests: featured listings only (the default), every claimed listing, or nobody (no request form). With "Tell free listings' owners" on, a free owner gets an email that someone asked, with your upgrade link, but not the customer's details.
  • Claim agreement: the sentence owners accept when they claim. Make it say how you'll contact them. Each claim records the exact text, the time, the IP address and the browser.

5. Sell featured listings

  1. In your CRM, create a product for the featured listing (for example "Featured listing, monthly", a recurring price).
  2. Make a payment link or an order form for it. Paste that link under Directory settings > Upgrade link; owners see it on their page and in request emails.
  3. Click "Pick products", tick the product, set the days per purchase (30 for monthly) and save.

When the listing's owner pays, their listing is featured for those days (more units, more days; each renewal adds time). The owner must be the paying contact: they become one when they claim. You can also add featured days by hand from the listing, or with the "Feature listing" workflow step.

Featured listings show first (rotating daily among themselves), carry a badge, show photos, and receive requests.

6. Owners

When an owner confirms their claim, they get an email with a private link to their listing page: they edit their details, upload a logo (and photos when featured) to your media library, and see their requests. Keep links private: anyone with the link can edit the listing. "New owner link" on the listing stops the old one at once; "Release" removes the owner.

7. Requests

A visitor's request from a listing page becomes a contact (tagged "directory-lead" and "dir-" plus the directory's address) with a note naming the listing. The Requests tab lists them with what the owner received, and downloads as CSV. The same person asking the same business twice in a day is sent once.

8. Put it on your website

Directory settings > Put it on your website. Paste the code into a page of your own site (a custom code or HTML block). The directory shows inside that page and grows to fit. Add data-category="plumbers" to the script tag to open one category. Or link to the public address directly; every page has its own address and the directory has a sitemap at /sitemap.xml.

9. Workflows

  • Triggers: Listing claimed (the owner's contact), Lead received (the visitor's contact, with the listing and the request), Featured started, Featured ending (a week before the end, the owner's contact). Each carries the directory, the listing name and link, the category and the owner's link.
  • Action: Feature listing adds featured days to the listing the workflow's contact owns, once per run.

Ideas: welcome new owners and offer the upgrade a few days later; send every visitor a "thanks, they'll be in touch" text; remind owners before their featured time ends.

10. Plans

By live directories: 1, up to 5, or up to 15 (2 during the free trial). A directory past the limit is paused (its public pages are off) until the plan goes up or you switch another off.

Removing the app

Plan > Disconnect deletes every directory, listing, claim and request we hold and takes the public pages offline. Uninstalling from the marketplace does the same. Contacts, notes and images in your CRM stay.
