Atticwell for Webflow: documentation

Atticwell shows where every file in your Webflow Assets panel is used, finds what nothing uses, and helps you clean up: safe delete with restore, duplicates, oversized images, alt text, file names and folders.

Install

  1. Install Atticwell from the Webflow Apps marketplace and choose your site on Webflow's screen. Approve.
  2. Open the site in the Designer, open the Apps panel and launch Atticwell.
  3. Press Scan this site on the Overview tab.

Scanning changes nothing and doesn't start your trial.

What a scan reads

  • Your assets and folders (Webflow's Data API).
  • Every static page and CMS template page's content: image elements name the asset they show.
  • Every component's content (a logo in a navbar component counts once, for the component).
  • Every CMS item: image, file and rich text fields.
  • Your class styles, read in the Designer when you press Scan: background images.
  • Your published site: every static page, one page per CMS template, the style sheets they load, custom code, embeds and the Open Graph image in each page's head.
  • Webflow's CDN: the first 64 KB of each image over 100 KB, to read its pixel size; whole files only where two have exactly the same size, to compare them.

A 2,000-asset site usually scans in a few minutes. You can close the Designer while it runs.

Used, unused, unknown

  • Used: at least one of the places above names the asset. The Cleanup tab's Used view lists where.
  • Unused: every place above was read in full and none names it.
  • Unknown: Atticwell can't be sure, so it never offers to delete it. That's every PDF and other document (they're often linked from emails, ads or other sites), files added in the last 7 days (they may be in work you haven't published), and everything when part of the site couldn't be read (a page that didn't load, a site never published, class styles not read in the last 30 days). The Overview tab says what was missing; fix it and scan again.

Delete safely

  1. Cleanup tab, Unused view: tick what you want gone.
  2. Dry run: nothing changes. You see what would be deleted and what won't (used or unknown, with the reason).
  3. Type DELETE and press Delete. You need a scan from the last hour and a dry run of exactly these files after it. Atticwell asks Webflow about each file again, keeps a copy for 14 days, and only then deletes it. A file whose copy can't be kept isn't deleted.
  4. Restore any file within 14 days from the list under the table. It comes back as a new upload in its old folder with its alt text, with a new link.

Up to 1,000 files a run and 1 GB of kept files per site.

Duplicates

Files with exactly the same content (compared by a hash of the bytes), whatever their names. The copy used in the most places is the one to keep. Unused extra copies can be deleted here with the same dry run and DELETE. A used extra copy has to be swapped for the kept one in the Designer first (the Used view says where it's used).

Images

Every image wider than your limit (2,400 px by default) or heavier than your size limit (500 KB by default), with a plan: resize, convert to WebP or AVIF, or both, and the estimated size after. Open Graph images stay JPG or PNG so social shares show them, and are sized to 1,200 px. SVGs and GIFs are left alone.

Resize here makes the smaller file in your browser (WebP, or JPG/PNG for Open Graph images) and replaces the asset in the Designer; Webflow updates every place it's used. The file gets a new link. Browsers can't write AVIF, so an AVIF plan is written as WebP. Change the limits and format in Settings; they apply from the next scan.

Alt text

The Alt text tab lists images whose alt text is missing, empty (decorative, or forgotten), a file name, the same as on other pictures, starts with "image of", is too short or longer than 150 characters.

  • Suggest from CMS and file names fills each box with the CMS item the picture belongs to, or the readable words of its file name. Camera names like IMG_4032 give no suggestion: write those yourself.
  • Fill from template uses your sentence with {item}, {collection}, {page}, {name} and {site}. An image missing a value gets no suggestion rather than half a sentence.
  • Edit any box, tick Approve, press Write. Approve an empty box to mark the image decorative. Undo writes the previous alt text back for the whole batch.

No AI service is used and there are no credits.

File names

The Names tab lists files named by a camera or an export with a suggested name in lowercase words joined by hyphens ("lemon-tart.jpg"), from the CMS item, the alt text or the readable words of the name. Edit, tick, Rename; Undo puts the old names back. Pages use assets by id, so a rename never breaks a page. If Webflow gives a renamed file a new link, the change log says so.

Folders

Pick a rule: By file type (Images, Icons, Animations, Documents), By where it's used (Pages/..., CMS/..., Components, Shared, Unused (review)) or Used, unused and unknown. Atticwell lists every move, then creates the folders and moves the files in the Designer when you press the button.

Reports and the manifest

  • Weekly report: turn it on in Reports. Atticwell scans the site every week and compares the result with the last report: assets, unused, duplicates, oversized, alt text, names, and what was added and removed. Reports are kept in the Reports tab (the last 26); once email is switched on they're also emailed to the address you set.
  • Manifest: every asset with its size, pixels, folder, status, where it's used, alt text and findings, as CSV or JSON.
  • Change log: every change Atticwell made, who made it, and the value before and after.

Plans

  • $39/month or $390/year per site, or $249/month or $2,490/year for up to 10 sites in one workspace. Everything is in every plan.
  • 14-day free trial per site, starting at your first change. Scans, dry runs, reports and the manifest don't start it. When it ends, changes pause and nothing is deleted; you can read everything for 30 days.
  • Plan tab: Choose a plan, then Continue to secure checkout (Stripe, in a new tab). Back in the Designer press Refresh. Manage billing opens Stripe's portal for invoices, card changes and cancelling.

Remove Atticwell

Settings > Remove Atticwell deletes everything Atticwell stored for the site (scans, runs, the change log, reports, kept files) and revokes its access. Nothing in Webflow changes. Your plan isn't cancelled by this; cancel it in Plan

Manage billing.

Troubleshooting

  • "Atticwell couldn't read everything": the Overview tab lists what failed (a page that didn't load, a style sheet, a collection). Publish the site, check the page loads, and scan again.
  • "The last scan is more than an hour old": scan again, run the dry run again, then delete.
  • "Run a dry run of exactly these assets first": the selection changed since the dry run, or a new scan ran.
  • A file didn't move to a folder: reload the Designer (new folders appear after a reload) and run the rule again.
  • Resize here does nothing: the browser couldn't write that format; use Chrome or Edge.
