How Vaultwell works
Vaultwell for Webflow keeps snapshots of your site's CMS and restores items from them. It's a Webflow app made by Great Work LLC. Support: hello@greatwork.company.
Install
- Install Vaultwell from the Webflow Apps marketplace and approve your site on Webflow's screen.
- Open the site in the Designer, then open Vaultwell from the Apps panel.
- Press Take a snapshot now. Your 14-day trial starts here.
- In Settings, choose daily snapshots (and the hour, in UTC) or, on Pro and during the trial, hourly.
Snapshots
- A snapshot reads every CMS collection on the site: its fields and every item, drafts and archived items included, in every locale. Unchanged items are stored once, so long histories stay small.
- Snapshots run on your schedule, and by hand (10 a day on Standard, 50 on Pro).
- If one collection can't be read during a snapshot, it is carried over from the previous snapshot and the snapshot is marked "partial", so a snapshot is always complete.
- Between snapshots, Vaultwell captures each item change Webflow reports (created, changed, deleted). That's how an item that was created and deleted on the same day can still come back.
- Snapshots are kept 90 days on Standard and Workspace, 1 year on Pro. If a site reaches its storage (1 GB Standard, 5 GB Pro), the oldest snapshots go first; the snapshot that did it says so.
Compare and export
Open a snapshot to see its collections. Compare with now lists what changed, what was deleted and what was added since, with each changed field's before and after. Export CSV or Export JSON saves the collection as it was in that snapshot (CSV cells that a spreadsheet would run as a formula are escaped).
Item history
Pick a collection, find an item by name, slug or id, and open its history: every saved version oldest first, what changed in each, and "Updated by", the Webflow user id Webflow records on the item (Webflow doesn't share names with apps). The last entry is the item as it is in Webflow now. From any version: Restore this version (writes it back into the same item) or Restore as a new draft (a copy with "-restored" added to the slug).
Deleted items
Restore > Deleted items lists items Vaultwell saved that are no longer in the collection (checked against Webflow). Select some and preview. They come back as new items with new Webflow ids (Webflow never reuses an id), as drafts unless you choose otherwise; references from them, and references to them from other items (also in other collections), are re-linked to the new ids.
Rolling back a collection
Restore > Roll back the collection, choose the snapshot and what to do with items added since (leave, archive or delete), then Preview the rollback. The preview shows every item that will be updated (with field changes), every item that will be brought back, every newer item affected, and What can't be put back exactly. Check the box and press Restore.
- If anything in Webflow changes between your preview and Restore, Vaultwell shows a fresh preview instead of writing.
- Vaultwell takes a snapshot of the collection right before writing, so you can roll the rollback back.
- "Publish restored items that were live" publishes only the restored items that were published in the saved version, never your whole site. Otherwise publish in Webflow when you're ready.
What a restore can't do
- A deleted item's original id: it returns with a new one (references are re-linked).
- Fields Webflow sets itself: created by, updated by, created/updated/published dates.
- Code blocks inside rich text (Webflow's API can't write them).
- Fields deleted from the collection since the snapshot, options removed since (an option recreated with the same name is matched), deleted collections (export the snapshot and import it), and locales the site no longer has.
- Images whose original was removed from Webflow's CDN, unless you're on Pro, which keeps copies.
- Anything that isn't CMS content: pages, styles, interactions, site settings.
Pricing
Standard $39 a month or $390 a year per site; Pro $89 a month or $890 a year per site; Workspace $249 a month or $2,490 a year for every site in a workspace. 14-day free trial per site (300 snapshots or restores), starting with your first snapshot. When the trial ends, new snapshots and restores pause; for 30 days you can still browse and export, then the saved data is deleted. Manage billing (Plan tab) opens Stripe in a new tab.
Remove
Settings > Remove Vaultwell deletes every snapshot, captured change, image copy and log entry for the site, removes our webhooks and revokes our access. Your CMS is not changed. Uninstalling the app in Webflow does the same within 24 hours.
