JetBrains IDEs

PlybrookAnsible playbooks, roles and templates in your JetBrains IDE, built on the bundled YAML support. Plybrook only switches on for Ansible files, so your Kubernetes manifests, CI files and compose files stay exactly as they were.

Full name: “Plybrook for Ansible”

$59 a year or $5.90 a month for individuals. Free trial: 30 days, started from your IDE with a JetBrains Account.

What you get

  • Module and option completion for 8,600+ modules (ansible-core and the collections in the ansible 14 package), fully qualified names first, short names still match. Required options come first, values come from each option's choices.
  • Quick documentation with every option's type, default, choices and aliases. If ansible is installed, the full text comes from your own ansible-doc.
  • Jinja2 highlighting and variable completion in .j2 templates, in {{ }} values and in when:, changed_when:, failed_when:, until: and assert conditions.
  • Go to definition for roles, include_tasks and import_playbook files, vars_files, template and copy sources, handlers named in notify:, and variables (group_vars, host_vars, role defaults and vars, inventory, set_fact, register).
  • Inspections: unknown modules and options, missing required options, deprecated modules, short module names with a quick fix to the fully qualified name, unused variables, and template variables nothing defines.
  • Run configurations for ansible-playbook (inventory, limit, tags, check, diff, extra vars) and ansible-lint, with clickable file locations in the output.
  • Inventory tool window: groups, child groups and hosts from YAML and INI inventories, with their group_vars and host_vars files.
  • Vault values fold to one line. View or encrypt a value with the vault password, which is asked for each time and never saved.
  • What it doesn't do. It doesn't install Ansible, connect to AWX or Automation Platform, or run your playbooks remotely. Runs use your own ansible-playbook and ansible-lint.
  • Privacy. Plybrook has no server and sends nothing anywhere.
