Mendwell documentation

Mendwell finds broken links, redirects, missing anchors and mixed content on your Webflow site and in your CMS, fixes links inside CMS fields with preview and undo, shows pages that need internal links, and suggests 301 redirects. Questions: hello@greatwork.company.

Get started

  1. Install Mendwell from the Webflow Apps marketplace and approve your site on Webflow's screen.
  2. Open your site in the Designer, then Mendwell from the Apps panel.
  3. On Issues, press Crawl now. Your 14-day trial (10 crawls) starts here. You can keep working or close the panel; results appear when the crawl finishes.

Your site needs to be published. Mendwell crawls your custom domain if you have one, otherwise your .webflow.io address.

How the crawl works

  • Mendwell reads your robots.txt first and follows it, including Crawl-delay (up to 10 seconds), as MendwellBot. If robots.txt blocks crawlers, add this to robots.txt in Site settings > SEO > Indexing and publish:

    User-agent: MendwellBot
    Allow: /

  • It starts from your home page, your sitemap and Webflow's list of your pages and CMS items, then follows links on your own site. One page at a time per site, never forms or logins.

  • Links to other sites get one light check each, after that site's robots.txt allows it. Sites that block checkers (they answer 401, 403 or 429) are marked Couldn't verify rather than broken. Open them to be sure.

  • Your plan sets the most pages per crawl (500, 2,000 or 10,000) and outside links checked; a crawl also stops after 2 hours. Every language of your site counts toward the same page limit.

What it finds

FindingMeaningHow to fix
BrokenThe address answers 404, 410 or a server error, or doesn't answerPoint the link somewhere that works, or add a 301 (Redirects tab)

Mixed contentAn http:// image, script or frame on an https pageUse the https:// address
Insecure linkAn http:// link whose https:// address worksUse the https:// address
Not checkedrobots.txt asks crawlers not to fetch it, or the plan's outside-link limit was reachedNothing to do

A link that lives in a CMS field is listed once, with the item and field, even though it also appears on the item's page.

Fixing CMS links

  1. Tick the findings in CMS fields. Redirects and http links come with the new address filled in; for broken ones, type the new address (/blog/new-post or a full https:// address).
  2. Press Preview fix. Mendwell reads each item from Webflow now and shows the field as it will be written.
  3. Leave Publish ticked to publish the items that were already live, then Apply.
  4. Anything edited in Webflow after your preview is left alone and listed.

Every fix is in History with Undo for 30 days. Undo restores a field only if nobody changed it since.

Links on static pages and components: press Open page in the Designer and edit the link there.

Internal links

  • Pages that need links: pages no other page links to ("No page links here"), and pages only your menu or footer links to. Links that appear on nearly every page count as menu links.
  • Link ideas: places where a CMS item's rich text mentions another page's title (or keywords you add) but doesn't link to it. Pages with the fewest links come first, with at most 3 ideas per item and 5 per page. Tick the ones you want, Preview, Apply. Hide an idea with Not this one.
  • Keywords: add a few per page (comma separated) to find more ideas from the next crawl.

Redirects

For each broken address on your own site, Mendwell suggests the closest live page. Edit any suggestion, then:

  • Download only these: a CSV with two columns (old path, new path) for Site settings > Publishing > 301 redirects > Import.
  • Merge with my Webflow export: Webflow's import replaces all your existing redirects, so first Export them from Webflow and pick that file here. Mendwell keeps yours and adds its new rows; an address you already redirect stays as you set it.

Mendwell doesn't add redirects itself: Webflow lets apps write redirects only on Enterprise plans.

Schedule, history and digest

  • Settings > Scheduled crawls: weekly (all plans) or daily (Growth and Scale), or off.
  • History: every crawl with what's new and what got fixed since the one before, and every fix with Undo. Full results are kept for the last two crawls; summaries for 6, 12 or 24 months by plan.
  • Weekly digest: turn it on in Settings. It is shown in History; emailing it to you is coming and will use the same switch.
  • Export CSV on Issues downloads every finding.
