Bindmark: Branded PDF and Word Export for Confluence

Bindmark exports a Confluence page, or a page and every page below it, to a branded PDF or a Word (.docx) document. This page covers exporting, templates, the two macros, what goes into the file and the limits.

Export a page or a page tree

  1. Open the page. Choose ... (top right) > Export to PDF or Word (Bindmark).
  2. Pick This page only or This page and all pages below it.
  3. Pick PDF or Word (.docx) and a template. Type a document title if it should differ from the page title.
  4. Press Export. Progress shows while Bindmark reads the pages and builds the file; then press Download.

You can close the dialog while a large export runs. Download it later from Space sidebar > Apps > Bindmark exports > Recent exports. Finished files are kept for 24 hours.

To export a whole space, open Bindmark exports in the space, choose the space home page under Start from page, keep Include all pages below it ticked and press Export.

Exports contain only pages and pictures the person exporting can see.

Templates

A template decides how the file looks. Every site has the built-in Standard template: A4, cover page, contents, numbered headings, the document title and current section in the header, page numbers in the footer.

  • Site templates are offered in every space. Confluence admins edit them in Confluence settings > Bindmark PDF and Word export > Site templates (or the Site templates tab in any space's Bindmark exports page).
  • Space templates are offered only in their space. Space admins edit them in the space's Bindmark exports > Space templates tab.

Press Preview PDF or Preview Word in the editor to download sample pages laid out with the template, before saving.

What a template sets

SectionSettings
NameTemplate name; file name pattern (fields allowed, for example {title} {date})
PageA4, Letter, Legal or A5; portrait or landscape; margins in millimetres
Fonts and colorsPDF font (Sans or Serif with Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, or Helvetica/Times for the smallest files); Word body and heading fonts; text size; colors for headings, links, text, table headers and the cover band
LogoPNG or JPEG up to 150 KB; width on the cover; optionally in the page header
Cover pageOn or off; title, subtitle and extra lines (fields allowed)
Header and footerLeft, center and right text with fields; on the cover or not
Contents and numberingTable of contents on or off, its title and levels; heading numbers 1, 1.1, 1.1.1 and how many levels
WatermarkText such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL, and its strength
ContentNew sheet for each Confluence page; first page title as the document title; version and last update under each title; a note where a macro has no export form; web addresses printed after links
What to leave outPages with these labels (and pages below them); only pages with these labels; expand sections whose title starts with these words

Fields

FieldPrints
{title}Document title (the first page title, or what you typed when exporting)
{section}Title of the Confluence page printed on that sheet (headers and footers)
{space}, {spaceKey}Space name and key
{date}Export date
{exportedBy}Person who exported
{version}, {updated}Version number and last update date of the first page
{page}, {pages}Page number and total pages (headers and footers)

In Word files {page}, {pages} and {section} are live Word fields (PAGE, NUMPAGES and STYLEREF), so they stay right when you edit the document.

The two macros

  • Page break (Bindmark): the next content starts on a new sheet in Bindmark exports. Readers see nothing; editors see a small label.
  • Leave out of exports (Bindmark): everything inside shows on the page as usual and is left out of Bindmark exports (and of Confluence's own PDF and Word exports).

Both keep working for readers if the subscription lapses.

Privacy

Bindmark runs on Atlassian's Forge platform. It reads pages with the permissions of the person exporting, builds the file inside Atlassian, and sends nothing to Great Work or anyone else. Details: https://greatwork.company/apps/bindmark/privacy
